Moroso Nanook Table

nanook table
Design Philippe Bestenheider, 2008
Die-cut steel plates, varnished steel
Made in Italy by Moroso

The Nanook collection is composed of a chair and a low table. It reflects a study of the passage from two to three dimensions based on observing the tanning of a quadruped's hide. Nanook table sits on three legs, has a steel top, frame and legs and available with a glossy white, green, red or blue enamel finish. The table's top is comprised of separate die-cut steel plates that abstractly suggest the hexagonal structure of a snowflake. Tabletops interlock with each other in combinations of multiples, and can also be stacked: table legs connect through top's interstices.

Nanook is the first collection for Moroso by young Swiss designer Philippe Bestenheider, who has worked in the studio of Patricia Urquiola. Nanook is the result of his ongoing design research into surface fragmentation, molecular structures, the transition from two dimensions to three. A companion chair is also in the collection.
