Gubi Chair with Chrome Base

When Boris Berlin and Poul Christiansen designed the Gubi Chair Collection (2003), they had no idea that they were creating the next must-have Danish chair. The family-run company Gubi is known for its ability to uncover design icons a characteristic they credit to "obstinacy and the courage to follow through an idea" and they believe it is part of their DNA, passed on from company founders Lisbeth and Gubi Olsen to their sons Jacob and Sebastian. The company started as a small business selling textiles to retailers, and 44 years later, its guiding principles are still aesthetics, innovation, functionality and quality every piece in Gubi’s assortment of products must offer something special "by virtue of its design, materials or technology." The Gubi Chair fulfills all three and is "the very first industrial product based on an innovative technique of molding 3D veneer," says Jacob. "It is a process invented in Germany by Dr. Achim Müller and developed by Reholz GmbH." The result is a chair with edges that are turned away from the human body a nicely shaped shell that comforts you. The Gubi Chair is included in the permanent collection at MoMA in NYC. Made in Germany.

The front of this chair is upholstered in wool. The back is smooth polypropylene, in your choice of black or white.
